I’m exited to announce that my latest manuscript titled The Elevator, has been picked up by Palimpsest Press and will be published in Fall 2024.
The story takes place in the Roncensvalles Avenue neighbourhood in Toronto. The main character, Aria Ramdeen, finds herself matching on a dating app with a man who lives in her condo building. Not just any man, but one that she runs into all the time.
At the urging of her friend and neighbour Mila, a transgender woman who works in a family-run nail salon, Aria sends the man a smile. Then a message. But when he fails to respond or acknowledge the app connection when they run into one another, she decides to meet other men. What she doesn’t know is that the man from the elevator whose name is Rob, is no longer a paid subscriber and can’t see her message. She also has no idea that Rob admires her from afar but finds her guarded.
The story follows Aria and Rob as they embark on separate dating journeys while trying to manage their own complex, emotional issues from past relationships and childhood trauma. They continue to run into one another in the elevator, ignorant of the other’s attraction until two dating disasters bring them together.
Threads of missed connections, transgender emergence, an eating disorder, and hints of discrimination weave together to create a modern-day romance supported by an eclectic cast of characters.
